1. Aims of the Experiment


The specific aims for the experiment are:

  1. To introduce stellar motions.
     
  2. To introduce Barnard's star.
     
  3. To briefly discuss the astronomer's co-ordinate system.
     
  4. To measure the proper motion of Barnard's star by using old archival scanned photographs.
     
  5. To derive the position of Barnard's star from a recent CCD image taken at Durham.
     
  6. To undertake some basic analysis of the results.
