Rules for AstroLab Computing
These rules are in addition to the CIS'
Regulations and
Code of Conduct.
Misuse of the University's computer facilities (including those
provided for the Astrolab) is a serious offence.
The AstroLab computers must only be used for
AstroLab project work; they are not a general physics computer resource.
For example, the AstroLab printer should not be used for the production of essays
etc.
The AstroLab computers should not be used for web access
that is not related to AstroLab project work, e.g. downloading
MP3s, surfing eBay, Facebook, YouTube, etc.
Access to the web is provided via a private internal firewall.
Misuse of web access may result in only a very restricted set of
site addresses being available from the AstroLab computers.
On the AstroLab computers, files must only be created
in folders/directories with sensible names for your project.
Do not install illegal software on the AstroLab computers
Do not steal any software from the AstroLab computers.
Do not use Astrolab computers to play games.
